A service dog is not bought — it is built, one careful stage at a time. Here is exactly what your donation moves forward, and what each stage costs.

Selection & Health Screening
Candidate dogs are evaluated for temperament, resilience, and health. Only a fraction of dogs have the nerve strength for service work, and screening early protects the family from heartbreak later.

Foundation Raising
Six to twelve months of socialization, house manners, neutrality in public, and confidence-building across the sounds, surfaces, and crowds of daily life in Puerto Rico.

Advanced Task Training
The dog learns the specific tasks their future partner needs — interrupting escalation, deep pressure therapy, tethering and anchoring, retrieving, guiding, and grounding during overwhelm.

The right dog is matched to the right person, then the family trains alongside the dog until the handler and dog work as one team at home, at school, and in public.

These are the first ten service dogs of Caribbean Canine Academy's Founding Cohort. Each dog will be raised, professionally trained, and matched with a child, veteran, or adult living with a disability in Puerto Rico.
Some founding sponsorships have already been secured.
The remaining opportunities are available for visionary individuals, families, foundations, and corporations who wish to help build Puerto Rico's first sustainable service dog program.

Gifts of $25,000 and above build the permanent capacity of the program: training facilities, staff trainers, veterinary partnerships, and the placements that follow for years. Major gifts can be pledged over multiple years and directed to the area that matters most to you.
